“Great place”
Jun 7, 2009
TripAdvisor
We stayed for one night and wished we could've stayed longer. The staff were friendly, helpful and informative. Our room was large and the bathroom fantastic. The room had a computer with internet.access. We took the hotel minibus to the airport and it was spacious and cool. Breakfast offered a varied selection. We would certainly stay there again.

“Loved our Stay”

TripAdvisor
Wonderful friendly staff, great value ,great location, at least 10 different types of fruit + hot food for breakfast, great effort to do all they can for guests. Nothing was too much trouble, would stay there again.
We took a 1 day motor bike trip to Hoi An instead of a private car, from Hue. It was excellent. We had many stops & even though our butts were a bit sore, it was a highlight of our trip.

“Great hotel to stay - friendly staff and good location”

TripAdvisor
I stayed for one night and on arrival was greeted by very friendly staff with good english. I was upgraded to the 'honeymoon suite' on the top floor for the same price as my original standard room booking. Staff very informative about tours and options on sightseeing.
Would stay again if I am back in Hue.

“Outstanding”

TripAdvisor
My partner and I stayed here for two nights in May, and wished we could have stayed longer.

As soon as we arrived the service was fantastic and the staff so very friendly and welcoming with very good English. They upgraded our room to the "romantic room" as we were the lucky last ones to arrive for the day and the standard rooms (that we had booked) were filled. The room we got was much better and was up high with big windows and a great view. There was a fishtank-window separating the bathroom from the bedroom which was very novel! In the bathroom was a massive two person jaccuzzi.

The staff were very helpful and helped us book tours and cars, and even went up to our room before we got back to put the airconditioning on before our arrival, and provided a complimentary fruit platter. The personal touch really made a difference.

The breakfast was great (included) and there are also two computers in the foyer for free internet access.

It was truly a great experience and we highly recommend this place.

“A Boutique Gem”

My wife and I had come to Orchid from some of Vietnam's more illustrious resort-style hotels. This was meant to be the more budget-conscious stop on the two week holiday - two nights in the Honeymoon suite. To be honest, we weren't expecting much more than a comfortable bed and a good location, but we were more than pleasantly surprised.

While Orchid lacks the frills of the high end hotels - who needs frills it anyway when there's a whole country to experience - what is has in spades is dedicated service.

There are many examples, but one in particular stands out. The staff arranged for us to hire a scooter to visit some tombs and pagodas. All was well, until we emerged from a tomb to find our scooter tires flat - almost certainly deliberately. Isolated and with a thousand people offering to help us for a price we decided to do the spoilt thing and phone the hotel for advice. They insisted on coming out to solve the problem. They paid to have one of the locals temporarily fix the tyre (thank goodness, as I assume we would have got the 'tourist' rate) then paid to have the tyre replaced proper. Within half an hour we were back out on the road, and the hotel insisted they'd cover the repair costs - a rarity in this modern age of impersonal, profit-oriented hotels.

This is one example - there were many more. The Orchid is charming and comfortable. It's also very affordable. We recommend it highly.

“How many hotel staff sing 'Happy Birthday' to you?”
May 27, 2009
TripAdvisor
On arriving at the hotel the staff remarked at the year date on my friends cap (which denoted the year our football team was formed) and joked whether or not this was his age. Straight away we knew that the staff here were going to be friendly and fun as this would have made my friend 122. My friend quipped that it wasn't, but that it was his birthday, he received a congratulations there and then and thought nothing of it.

Later in the day having been out on some sightseeing and coming back to freshen up he received a knock on the door with two of the staff outside. they told him that they'd brought him up a fruit platter, but on entering his room started to sing 'happy birthday' and give him a cake, card and flowers. If I'd been a better friend I may have arranged this in advance, but this was all done off the staff's own backs.

I can't empathise enough how great the staff were. Always friendly, helpful and very funny. This seems to extend to the town of Hue as we witnessed a few incredibly selfless and charitable acts at the 'Why Not Bar' by the staff there.

The Orchid Hotel in Hue has just about everything going for it. It's well located to the town. A few minutes walk from the restaurants and not far from the citadel, but remaining in a quiet location. The rooms we had were spacious and beautifully turned out - they even had a computer with free internet access which I'd never seen before in a hotel of this price. The breakfast buffet had a nice mix of Asian and Western foods, fresh fruits, teas, coffee and juices to suit most tastes. All this at a price that wouldn't dent the wallet (or purse) of all but the most hardened backpacker.

The staff are well aware of the trip advisor site and whilst they are number one in Hue you can see a genuine desire that they want to be number one in Vietnam. I sincerely hope that they make it as I can't imagine a nicer and more deserving bunch getting it.

“Great Hotel”

TripAdvisor
I stayed at the Orchid Hotel in May 2009 and found it to be one of the nicest hotels. I've stayed at other hotels in Hue but found the Orchid to be the best. Very nice staff and a really nice room complete with Internet in the room. The Orchid is a small hotel so the staff greets you in a very personal manner. The buffet breakfast is small but nice and the hotel is super clean. My room was a Family Room so there was a king size bed and a twin bed so I didn't have to fall over my back pack all the time. Good shower with hotel water and good water pressure. They offer tour services, at very competitive prices, without any pressure to use them. Certainly a great place for first timers to stay in Hue, or veteran travelers like me. Great location that is within walking distance of lots of cafes and places to get the laundry done or rent bikes or buy water. Overall, the Orchid is a true bargain and a truly great place to stay.

“Great staff, nice rooms, good location”

TripAdvisor
My wife and I stayed here for two nights in April 2009. The staff were very welcoming and our room on the 6th floor was excellent - reasonably spacious, nice natural light, tasteful furnishings and in-room internet.

My wife wasn't feeling the best when we arrived so the staff arranged an appointment with a local doctor and a cab to get us there. As the doctor's rooms were a bit difficult to find they'd also phoned the tailor next door, who met us on the street and directed us to the doctor.

I'd booked overnight train tickets to Hanoi but because my wife was sick we decided to fly, instead. I thought I'd blown the money on the train tickets but the manager of the hotel took them to the railway station and managed to get most of our money back.

The hotel is across the road from a couple of good restaurants and the walk to the Citadel along the river and across the bridge, while not short, takes you past some nice sights. Our room had a DVD player and the hotel had a couple of hundred DVDs that guests could borrow at no charge.

And finally, they serve a pretty good breakfast.

Highly recommended.

“Incredible value”
May 16, 2009
Their tagline is "You will be surprised," and we were-- in a good way. My husband and I booked a superior room, but were upgraded to a family room. The room came with a king-sized bed and a computer, and was clean, modern. The staff greeted us with cool water and a snack when we checked in and later helped us rent bicycles. The staff will also arrange other tours, although we did not take advantage of this service. Breakfast was okay-- good fruit and crepes, but we were disappointed that we couldn't order noodles once it got to be closer to 10:00am. The hotel is located right in town, so it was a short walk to grab some food or a beer, and the Citadel was a short bike ride away.

“Best service in the world!”

The most hospitable team in the world. Ms. Chi and the team threw the best New Year's party my wife and I have ever been to. A treat for all the guests and the accomodations provide a great bang for your buck. Would highly recommend the Orchid!

“A lovely hotel”
May 11, 2009
TripAdvisor
My husband and I spent four nights at the Orchid Hotel with our three teenage sons in early May, 2009. I'd heard great things on trip advisor and I was not disappointed. We had a family room with an extra bed. Our youngest son, aged 10, slept in the king size bed with us. We were offered another bed but I have no idea where they would have put it. One extra bed in the room was already crowded. The standard room configuration is one king size and a single and if that was enough for your family, you would find the room extremely comfortable! We loved our stay at the Orchid and particularly liked the extra attention to detail like a table and chairs, a kettle and tea/coffee making facilities, the large tv and dvd player and of course the computer. The rooms are immaculately clean and very attractive. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and the buffet breakfast offered a lovely variety of fruits, cakes, bread, eggs, cereal, fried rice, noodles, spring rolls and salad and cold meats. It took about 20 minutes to walk to the other side of the river and the markets and supermarket. And a little longer to walk to the Citadel. The internet speed was really fast and the hot water in the shower was really hot. We received complimentary water each day and overall our experience was really good. The staff made the effort to get to know my children and after a month away in Asia, it was refreshing to finally stay in a hotel with a lift!

“Very good hotel”

This hotel was very good. Almost over-friendly staff, beautiful room, nice breakfast, good advice, free internet. We paid a little extra and got a room with a huge tv, jacuzzi and hi fi! amazing. Location was good too, walking distance from the sights, the bars, the restaurants etc.
If you are stopping in Hue for a day or two, then definitely stay here.

“Can't beat the value”
May 5, 2009
TripAdvisor
Probably the best value for money we have had in Vietnam. As a family of 4 we were all accommodated in a family room.
Booked based on the TripAdvisor reports we were more than happy with the 2 nights we spent at the hotel. Good facilities in these rooms including your own PC, DVD palyer and access to a number of DVD's from reception.
Hotel staff were great and went out of their way to talk to the kids (age 8 and 11) and offer advise on things to see and do. Also arranged tours and transfers as required.
Would certainly stay here again.

“Most beautiful hotel we stayed at in vietnam”
May 1, 2009
TripAdvisor
Of the five different places we went to in Vietnam (Hanoi, Saigon, Nha Trang, Mekong) this hotel in Hue was definitely the most beautiful. I loved the decorations in the room so much i took photos to try and recreate them in my own home. We got an online price of $35. We rented bikes while we were there to ride to Thuan An Beach 15 km away. It was raining when we rode and the beach was deserted but we ate some yummy crab. The hotel has a beautiful room for breakfast, and a great spread of food and fruits. Staff would also bring you random snacks to your room throughout the day. (Once or so.) My only knock on the hotel was that the Internet was down most of the time we were there. Oh, and this hotel has an elevator, which seems to be really important to a lot of travelers.
